A highly social, fun, outdoor recreational institution in the Cape for 30-plus years is more popular than ever. The most dedicated and expert bocce players at Veterans Park belong to men’s and women’s associations, Italian-American and Goodfellas leagues that compete on six courts nearly every day and evening during busy season. Players are also welcoming special groups to also enjoy the sport and provide opportunities for anyone to play during open time, mostly on Sundays.
Jim Balogh, treasurer of the Cape Coral Bocce Association (CCBA), pointed to the posted weekly play schedule that includes time slots for New Residents, Good Times, Friends and other groups. “In the last few years, bocce play here has grown quite a bit. The New Residents group has increased from one to six courts,” Balogh said.
