Italian Ambassador to the United States, Mariangela Zappia, inaugurated the “MOSAICO. Italian Code of a Timeless Art” exhibition last night in Washington, together with Aaron Myers, Director of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. This marks the launch of the first traveling multimedia exhibition dedicated to Italian mosaics.
“Italian mosaics represent one of Italy’s most significant and enduring contributions to art history—not simply as decoration, but as a lasting language that has spanned centuries to become an essential part of our cultural heritage. Mosaics are a bridge between East and West, joining traditions that range from the Roman and Byzantine Empires to contemporary Italy and beyond, even reaching the United States, where Italians introduced the art of mosaics from New York to Saint Louis,” commented the Ambassador.
