May 24: fans of both opera and fashion have to underline that date in red on their agenda. That's the date for the premiere of a very unusual Traviata at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome, with creative directors Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti, founders of the fashion house Valentino, and stage director Sophia Coppola.
Valentino, a master of 20th century fashion, will design the costumes worn by Violetta, the protagonist of the opera written by Giuseppe Verdi in 1853. The costumes will be made in Valentino ateliers in Rome.
