Illustrated lecture by San Francisco Opera's Director of Music Administration, Kip Cranna, who will on the occasion of Giuseppe Verdi's 200th birthday in 2013, discuss the operas La Traviata and Otello and show excerpts from the films by Franco Zeffirelli, master of Italian cinema. Italian opera is a special world and films of Italian operas are a whole new dimension, taking the music out of the confines of the theater and into the expanses of the real world.
