"Monica" premiere in Los Angeles

Italian film Director and screenwriter Andrea Pallaoro premiered at Venice Film Festival on September 2022 ARCA – cinema giovani award for the movie ‘MONICA’ on May,2nd. Pallaoro presented his premiere at CAA (Creative Artists Agency) in Los Angeles with Q&A and reception to follow. The whole cast (Tracey Lysette, Patricia Clarkson, Emily Browning, Joshua Close) attended the discussion presented by actress Sara Paulson.

Sara Paulson remarked this film is realized in an historical moment where transgender ‘s rights  have been abolished in many States of America. The audience was enthusiastic. Consul General of Italy Raffaella Valentini, Consul Lorenza Errighi and Director  of Italian Institute of Culture Emanuele Amendola were present at the screening. 

This movie tells us about the intimate portrait of a trans woman who returns home to care her dying mother after many years far from her family. The story explores universal themes of abandonment, aging, acceptance and redemption, but the strong tie between mother and child never finish. 

Besides the Venice award, the movie had 6 nominations. The premiere in New York is scheduled on May 11, 2023. 

Andrea Pallaoro was born in Italy and studied at Hampshire College (BA) and California Institute of the Art (MFA). His film debut was Medeas, and Hannah was the second feature.
