Actor Riccardo Bocci will commemorate the International Holocaust Remembrance Day with a stage reading of Primo Levi’s work La Tregua (UK:The Truce; US: The Reawakening). In English.
Composed by Primo Levi between 1961 and 1962 “The Truce” is the sequel of “If This is a Man” and describes the long way home of the protagonist after the liberation of Auschwitz in January 1945. At the core of the novel is Levi’s voyage through Poland, Belarus, Rumania, Austria to finally arrive in Turin, free from the nightmare of Nazism. The dominant feeling conveyed by Levi’s powerful narrating voice is one of uncertainty about the destiny of “truce” of the protagonist waiting to start a brand new life.
