There are numerous tricolor flags in the world, but only one with any dominion over a bocce tournament. Thus the green, white and red flag of Italy is flying proudly alongside the banners of Canada and the United States this weekend in Wickliffe. The occasion is the 32nd annual Cleveland Challenge Cup of Bocce at the Wickliffe Italian-American Club, 29717 Euclid Avenue.
It picks up Sunday at 8 a.m., and concludes with the Men's Division Championship at 6 p.m. Tournament Director Gino Latessa said on Saturday that 111 teams are competing, 96 in the men's division and 15 in the women's. He estimated that 10,000 spectators are expected for the three-day event. There is no charge to watch.
