The Italian-American Festival plans to install two bocce courts on Market Square by June. The city has OK’d the group’s request to build in the northwest corner, parallel to the parking lot, said City Engineer Dan Moeglin. They are surface courts with a raised border. “It doesn’t need a whole lot of formality,” he said.
City crews removed a few pine trees, but there will be no cost to Canton for construction. Moeglin said the courts will be publicly available when not in use for the festival, which is June 21 to 23. The Unique Club of Stark County, along with the Capuano and DeSarro families, are organizing the bocce tournament sponsored by Papa Bear’s restaurant. Anthony DeSarro & Son Construction is installing the courts.
