Phil Martelli is trading his crimson and gray wardrobe for maize and blue. The former Saint Joseph’s coach announced on Twitter Monday that he has accepted an offer to be an assistant men’s basketball coach under Juwan Howard at Michigan. “THE NEXT CHAPTER!!!” Martelli tweeted. “@umuchbbal @JuwanHoward THX to @saintjosephs @A10MBB, Big 5, Philly hoops allowed me and my family to take away lifetime memories and lifelong friendships #GoBlue.”
Howard was hired to replace John Beilein, who left to become the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Martelli joins Saddi Washington, the only holdover from Beilein’s staff. Howard also is expected to name New York Knicks assistant Howard Eisley to his staff, according to multiple internet reports.
