There was an especially good crop of New England born-and-bred players in Major League Baseball this year, and Chris Colabello was the best of them. Thursday, Colabello was named the 2015 winner of the Ben Mondor Award as New England Player of the Year by the Boston Chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Colabello will be honored at the annual Boston BBWAA dinner scheduled for Jan. 21 at the Marriott-Copley Hotel in Boston.
Colabello is the third player from Central Mass. to be so honored. Tim Collins won the Mondor Award after the 2012 season, and Rich Gedman was the New England Player of the Year for the 1984 season. The man who brought Colabello to Toronto, former Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos, is also being honored by the Boston writers as Major League Executive of the Year.
