Chris Distefano is widely known in the entertainment world as a funny guy with a great stand-up persona. So he’s not looking to change careers anytime soon. But he can always fall back on his “other” career — as a licensed physical therapist with a doctorate degree from New York Institute of Technology-Old Westbury. As he often says, “I got a bachelor’s degree in psychology to impress my mom’s friends, and a doctorate to impress my friends’ moms.”
The 33-year-old Brooklyn, N.Y., comic/actor said during a recent telephone chat that he’s loves making people laugh, loves being on stage and had wanted to become a comic since childhood. Although he took the “smart” route through college, when it became apparent that he could actually make a solid living in stand-up and on television, he made the decision to swap stability for self-expression.
