Great satisfaction for Italian art thanks to Stefano Massini, who at the 75th Tony Awards, the Oscars of Broadway theater and musicals, took home five awards for his show The Lehman Trilogy. Stefano Massini is a Florentine writer and playwright. Massini began working as a playwright in 2005. From 2015 to 2020 he was artistic consultant to the Piccolo Teatro in Milan.

The Lehman Trilogy took five awards out of eight nominations: best play, best director with Britain's Sam Mendes, best lighting and set design, best set design, and best lead actor with Britain's Simon Russell Beale. Practically Massini's play not only won in the sound-music design category, it was otherwise a true triumph.

The play, written by the Florentine author and actor and adapted by Ben Power, recounts the financial saga of the Lehman brothers: a centuries-long story, from 1844, with their landing in the United States from Germany, to the infamous 2008, the year of the bankruptcy and crisis of financial capitalism to which the Lehmans made a big contribution.

The success in New York is a fitting conclusion to seven years of success between Italy, Europe and the United States. The Italian debut was in 2015, at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan, Luca Ronconi's last project. In New York it debuted in October 2021 at the Nederlander Theatre, winning a sold-out run. Massini's play will also soon become an Italian TV series.
