It was a very special afternoon in Glendale, NY on Sunday, June 26 as Phil Rizzuto Corner was officially approved and named. Rizzuto, a proud Italian American, helped the Yankees win seven World Series titles between 1941 and 1956. He was inducted to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1994.
The Glendale native played at Richmond Hill High School and signed an amateur contract with the Yankees in 1937. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Rizzuto’s parents were born in Calabria, Italy.
