Tottenville resident Sal Rapaglia has spent a lifetime promoting the game of soccer and last week, he received one of the most prestigious honors for his decades of service. Rapaglia was awarded Life Membership in the U.S. Soccer Federation during its annual General Meeting last Saturday, according to ussoccer.com.
The report said Life Membership is the “highest honor awarded by the National Council and given to individuals who have made significant contributions in promoting soccer in the United States.” Nominees must meet one of the following standards for membership, including: They need to have been a Federation officer, a member of the Board of Directors, served as an officer for at least 10 years with an Organization Member while providing extraordinary services to the Federation, been a U.S. Soccer staff member, or served on a committee for at least eight years.
