Filippo Tortu has decided to go to train in the USA to prepare for the two major competitive events of the season, namely the European Championships in Rome in early June and the Paris 2024 Olympics in August. The Italian sprinter has chosen to travel to the Montverde Academy in Orlando, Florida, in consultation with the Italian Federation.
Tortu will team up with top athletes such as Kenny Bednarek, Aaron Brown, Kyree King and Sha'Carri Richardson (the 100-meter World Champion). The 25-year-old will not change his coaching staff and will always be coached by his dad Salvino. The Olympic Champion and world silver medalist in the 4×100 meters chose this location, "a logistical opportunity and from being able to train in a facility that hosts top-level athletes."
Marcell Jacobs also trains in Florida: the Olympic 100-meter dash and relay champion changed coaches at the end of last season (he relied on Rana Reider) and settled in at the University of North Florida campus in Jacksonville.
