Marco Island resident Pat Mazzucco fondly remembers how he was introduced to the sport of bocce more than 75 years ago. The son of Italian immigrants, Mazzucco recalls his father playing with a group of friends every Sunday afternoon in New Providence, New Jersey.
Mazzucco's father and his pals didn't have much money, so they were resourceful when getting their weekly games together. "There was a railroad that ran right along the border of our property," Mazzucco said. "My father and his buddies would pick up railroad ties and they made the bocce court out of them.
