Harrison’s soccer team has an international flair to the squad this year. Michi Gentile has joined the team in her year of living in Harrison. There is a big difference between Arkansas high school sports and those in Italy. “Schools in Italy are really different,” she said. “They think that sports are a distraction, so we do not have any kind of sports at school.”
Despite soccer being popular in Italy, it is not a big sport for girls. “Usually in my country, soccer is a sport just for boys,” she said. “That is one of the reasons it is different. I don’t play soccer in Italy because girl soccer is not as famous as boy’s soccer.” Friday at 2 p.m., Gentile and Lady Goblins will challenge Maumelle in the finals of the Class 5A State Soccer Tournament at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.
