The newest exhibit at World of Speed Motorsports Museum honors the most successful American race car driver of all time: Mario Andretti. "Mario Andretti is a household name because he won at every race he entered in," says David Pearson, the executive director of World of Speed. "He was a champion across all different disciplines of motorsports."
In this day and age, Pearson says, most race car drivers specialize in just one thing, like Indy or Formula, but Andretti could drive anything, which is rare. At Mario Andretti: Racing Royalty, you'll get up close to 11 race cars from different styles of racing spanning 5 decades. Nine of the 11 cars are originals. Two are replicas, including the first car Andretti ever raced - a 1949 Hudson he and his brother built themselves - which was destroyed in a crash.
