The Park of Mediterranean Biodiversity, formerly Parco della Scuola Agraria, was inaugurated in 2004. It is located in the center of the town of Catanzaro, Calabria, and it is entirely dedicated to the protection of the flora and fauna characteristic of the Mediterranean, such as the numerous botanical species.

The total area of the park, of nearly 60 hectares, or 600,000 m2, is the result of an environmental recovery work of a degraded area subject to land reclamation with particular attention to the conservation and enhancement of biodiversity. Inside, for this reason, there is an entire section of 114,200 m2 dedicated to the Italian botanical garden, where there are 20,000 species of shrubs of hedge, 2,000 tall trees, 200 species of trees and 100 species of aquatic water plants, all easily accessible and observable thanks to the routes that have been made within the Park.

In order to allow a wider public to enjoy the park, the green area also hosts facilities such as the Military Historical Museum, a theater, a skating area and a playground, a green labyrinth and the Swans' Pond.

The Provincial Administration of Catanzaro has received for this project in 2011, in Padua, the national award "The Green City 2011", which is awarded each year to municipalities that have been distinguished for public green management, particularly for the remarkable variety of projects designed to preserve not only the nature but also the history of the sites.
