On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth, the IIC pays tribute to the great novelist, poet, essayist, editor, and intellectual, Giorgio Bassani and his book The Garden of the Finzi-Continis (Il giardino dei Finzi-Contini). The novel chronicles the relationships between the narrator and the children of the Finzi-Continis, a Jewish family in Ferrara, from the rise of Benito Mussolini until the start of World War II.
Introduction by Thomas Harrison, Professor and Chair of the department of Italian at University of California, Los Angles (UCLA). Special presentations by UCLA PhD candidates Viola Ardeni on the life of Bassani and Adele Sanna on The Garden of The Finzi-Continis by Bassani and Vittorio De Sica.
