"La Traviata" is one of the world's most performed opera for a reason: With its memorable melodies and its heartbreaking love story, it will make you cry. Virginia Opera will stage a new spin on Giuseppe Verdi's tragic love story about a beautiful courtesan who falls in love and dies of tuberculosis.
Performed in Italian with English subtitles, the new production will be directed by Lilian Groag and has been moving its principal performers to tears. "It's such a moving story," said soprano Cecilia Violetta López. "I can't get through a scene without being moved emotionally. It's the most heart-wrenching piece of music I've ever had to sing."
