Baltimore City to return destroyed Christopher Columbus statue to original owners

Baltimore City's Board of Estimates on Wednesday is expected to return what's left of a Christopher Columbus statue, to its original owners. The 17 ton marble statue once stood at 14 foot 2 inches in Little Italy. It was gifted to Baltimore City by the Italian American Organizations United, Inc.

On July 6 it was destroyed and dumped in the Inner Harbor. Crews later recovered the pieces from the water. The City now says they want to give the statue back, saying its public display on city property will not best protect and preserve its artistic and historical significance.
