A Washington, D.C. councilman has reportedly proposed bills that would remove references to the Italian explorer from the nation's capital. David Grosso, a city councilman since 2013, has also suggested that Columbus Day should be renamed “Indigenous Peoples' Day.”
In an interview with NBC Washington's Chris Gordon, Grosso shared his thoughts on Christopher Columbus's complicated legacy: “The amount of genocide and destruction that was done when Columbus came to the Americas [...] has put us, I think, in a position now where we have to look back and figure out how to make amends for that,” Grosso said.
