The Italian flag was raised in front of Town Hall during a ceremony on Wednesday held to kick off the annual Feast of Mt. Carmel, a Berkeley Heights tradition for more than 100 years. The Truth, Community Healing, and Inclusion Committee of the Township of Berkeley Heights hosted the event.
Berkeley Heights’ history has long been rich in Italian culture, and the Feast of Mt. Carmel has played a big part of that. The festival runs through Sunday, July 16, and includes food, games, music, and rides, with a big fireworks display presented by Berkeley Heights’ own Garden State Fireworks, on Saturday, July 15, at 10 p.m.
