Summer is winding down, and the beginning of school marks an important weekend coming up in Clarksburg — the 38th annual West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival. But first a tasty prelude arrives in the form of the 28th annual Pasta Cook-Off, which will be held this Saturday. "The Pasta Cook-Off didn't start with the festival, but we have been doing it for a good while now," said Rose Mazza, cook-off chairman.
The cook-off will be held at Jackson Square again this year, where all the sauces must be prepared. The two main categories are still white and red sauce, along with the canned pepper and homemade wine contests. "The participants need to bring their our cooking utensils, pots, pans and burners, as well as their own pasta, spices and other items needed to make the sauce," Mazza said.
