Pittsburgh's 30th Columbus Day parade draws big crowds under sunny skies

Pittsburgh's 30th annual Columbus Day Parade drew an estimated 10,000 spectators and participants Saturday — a record total since the event moved to the city's Bloomfield neighborhood about 13 years ago.

The parade stretches more than a mile through the city's Little Italy and celebrates Italian heritage and culture, but it "has become more of a multicultural event" with participation from German, Scottish, Polish, Latin American and other groups, said city Chief Operations Officer Guy Costa, who serves on the parade committee.
