With the 2015 Columbus Italian festival now in the record books, organizers and participants say they hope to bring back a couple highlights that were new to the festivities this year. Chief among them is making the St. John the Baptist Italian Catholic Church building a bigger part of the celebration that it sponsors in its neighborhood each Columbus Day weekend, said Deacon Felix Azzola.
"The church is really giving meaning to all that is going on around it," he said. "All of this is in the context of what we stand for in the Italian heritage, which is faith, family and friends." The festival, dating to 1980, was held at the Ohio State Fairgrounds for 17 years, before being moved to the streets surrounding St. John.
