In this lecture, Dr. Daniele Macuglia will investigate the professional relationships that arose between artists and anatomists during the Italian Renaissance. Starting with an overview of the collaboration between Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) and Marco Antonio dalla Torre (1481-1511), we will ponder a series of relevant case studies, including those of Antonio del Pollaiolo (c.1431-1498), Andrea del Verrocchio (1435-1488), Michelangelo (1475-1564), Realdo Colombo (1516-1559), and Andreas Vesalius (1514-1564).
