The end of the Beltrami County Board of Commissioners meeting Tuesday served as the beginning of a yearlong celebration, honoring the county's sesquicentennial. During the meeting, Joe Vene, Chairman of the Board, gave a proclamation designating the year 2016 as the celebration of Beltrami County's 150th anniversary.
Shortly after Vene's presentation, an informational presentation was given that described the origin of the man the county is named after. The presentation—provided by the Beltrami County Historical Society—featured John Eggers, an educator who brought along prop materials to help tell the story of Italian explorer Giacomo Beltrami.
