Admired by Boston operaphiles for championing offbeat repertoire and showcasing emerging talent, Boston Midsummer Opera stays true to form when the company presents a novel double bill of Italian comedies, Donizetti's "Il Campanello" and Mascagni's "L'amico Fritz," in July.
But in a new wrinkle, the company will present its annual production in a new home: the Arsenal Center for the Arts in Watertown, familiar to local audiences as the home of New Repertory Theatre. The move comes after the opera's previous home, Boston University's Tsai Center, became unavailable.
