Angelo "Joe" Amore, a tailor born in Italy who for decades thrived as the creator of bespoke suits for the city's powerful politicians and business leaders, has died at the age of 91. Amore died on Tuesday following a year and a half of steadily declining health, his son, Robert Amore said. Despite that, the elder Amore did his best to keep busy, regularly seeking out alterations to perform for his son's clothing shop in Colonie's Newton Plaza.
Though other tailors who perfected their crafts near the Capitol moved to the suburbs when the downtown retail business went soft, Amore was a holdout, the last Old World tailor of State Street, the city's historic artery. "He was stubborn," Robert said. "He couldn't bring himself to leave."
