After only a few years, Borough President James S. Oddo announced the scrapping of "Rome Through Richmond Town" and "Mount's Italian Feast" -- to make way for an even bigger Italian pride event. The upcoming festival -- dubbed "Festa Italiana at the Mount: The Biggest Columbus Day Celebration in Staten Island's History" -- is set to take place October 6-8.
Oddo hyped the three-day festival Tuesday morning at Mount Loretto, where he was flanked by Catholic Charities of Staten Island CEO Vincent Ignizio, Lois and Richard Nicotra of The Nicotra Group, former Borough President Ralph J. Lamberti, and Councilman Joe Borelli. Officials said the reasoning behind the switch was to accommodate more people and have more space for vendors, entertainment and culture groups. BTW: BP Oddo said "Rome Through Richmond Town"attracted an estimated 6,000 people last year.
