Women's History Month, celebrated annually each March, acknowledges myriad contributions females have made in America. Interestingly, from its beginnings as International Women's Day on March 8, it's been expanded twice by the United States Congress — first as a week long celebration in 1981 and to its current month-long celebration in 1987.
So at this time it's only fitting that The Italian-American Women of Staten Island host its annual Women in History Luncheon Sunday, March 6, at the Hilton Garden Inn, Bloomfield. During the celebration each year the organization honors a woman who's made a difference in the community.
