Part I: Warmly received and highly acclaimed by world-wide audiences, Guiseppe Tornatore's "Cinema Paradiso" re-established Italy as one of the premier production houses for art cinema. After a two-decade decline in the popularity and quality of Italian cinema, this 1988 film was universally hailed as a harbinger of the nation's cinematic renaissance. Join us for a study of its most enlightening and enriching moments.

Part II: We resume our review and study using the darkest hours of the cinema's fiery demise as a point of departure, we will follow and analyze the "progress" of modern Sicilian (and Italian) society, and the personal and professional growth of the film's protagonist Salvatore Di Vita.
