It's an annual gathering celebrating Italian American heritage in Syracuse. The laying of a wreath at the Christopher Columbus statute at the circle that bears his name in the center of the city. It is a celebration that has been scaled down over the years. Organizers say their children can become more involved. They're hoping they can return to the spirit of their parents decades ago.
"Really wanted to celebrate what their parents had done in coming to this country and all the contributions they've made to this country. And that really was the heart of a celebration of this type. We're going to look at starting to get younger people involved and kind of resurrect that celebration," said Columbus Day organizer Michael Vavonese.
