Dr. Joseph Scelsa is one of the most respected and recognized figures in the Italian American community who has written essays and publications, sits on the boards of some of the major Italian American organizations, and is the recipient of multiple recognitions, and accolades. In 1999 he organized the exhibition “The Italians of New York: Five Centuries of Struggle and Achievements”.
The exhibit lasted 4 months and was visited by over 100,000 people. After that success Dr. Scelsa realized there was great interest and in 2001 he gave birth to The Italian American Museum.
