The Hon. Christian Di Sanzo, elected to the North and Central American Repartition, received at the IIC in New York the Caruso Tribute Award Prize, organized by Melos International and dedicated to Enrico Caruso, in recognition of his work for the dissemination of Italian culture in North America, with special emphasis on the younger generation.
The award is dedicated to Enrico Caruso, whose story represents the story of a great Italian artist who found success in America. "It was really a pleasure to receive the Caruso Award, I thank Dante Mariti and Melos International for awarding me among the various personalities this year.
This award is also and above all a moment to remember, in the 150th year since his birth, such a talented figure as Enrico Caruso, an important figure, not only from an artistic point of view, but also because he represented a moment of great redemption for the Italian community in the United States," said Hon. Christian Di Sanzo.
Along with Hon. Di Sanzo, great personalities from the worlds of art, information, and business were honored, such as tenor Matthew Polenzani, tenor Amadi Lagha, RAI journalist Claudio Pagliara, U.S. correspondent, and entrepreneur Claudio Sarra.
Hon. Di Sanzo, recalled "that the figure of Enrico Caruso was so appreciated in the United States that it was an occasion of profound recognition for the entire Italian community. Caruso also never lacked a deep spirit of community that drove him to the bars of Little Italy, where he met less fortunate compatriots; in different ways he expressed his closeness to people who, like him, had arrived by ship across the ocean, but traveling in much more modest spaces and to go to do menial work in often difficult conditions."
Hon. Di Sanzo pointed out that Caruso's experience, in its extraordinariness, "a great tenor who met with true success only in the United States," "brings to mind so many young people who, not finding spaces in Italy, try to realize their dreams elsewhere and particularly in the United States. So many talented people who emigrate in search of recognition for their work and the search for new opportunities that they cannot find in Italy. Stories that even today, unfortunately, remain very relevant."
