Asserting its strong commitment to human rights and its role as co-chair of the Group of Friends of the R2P initiative for 2018, Italy has presented its candidacy to the UN Human Rights Council for 2019-2021, “confident that we will carry out our duty in the best interest and representation of the international community as a whole”, the Italian Permanent Representative to the UN Sebastiano Cardi announced today, addressing the at the 56th Session of the Commission for Social Development.
Cardi recalled Italy’s patrimony of achievements and commitments in the human rights and development field, stating the firm objective to help attaining a full-fledged connection between the enjoyment of human rights and the attainment of socio-economic development in the framework of the 2030 Agenda.
