Joseph Buono, 83, of Grasmere, a baker and businessman whose family-owned bakery was a staple in Grasmere for many years, and a family man who loved Italian soccer, died Tuesday in Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze.
Born in Ischia, Italy, he immigrated to the United States at the age of 16, moving to Brooklyn. He settled in Grasmere in 1977. He owned Buono's Bakery, which specialized in St. Joseph's Day pastries and authentic Italian cakes. He and his brother Louis started the business in 1966, family said.
