Republican Town Supervisor Mark Assini made it official on Tuesday night: He is running for Congress again next year against longtime Democratic Rep. Louise Slaughter of Fairport. Assini kicked off his campaign at the Italian-American Community Center in Gates. Assini ran against Slaughter in 2014, when he lost to the incumbent by just under 900 votes.
Assini told the gathering at the community center that there needs to be less partisan bickering in Washington, and he also said Congress must help address the issue of poverty in Rochester. He also promised to limit himself to two terms in Congress, and according to theD&C pledged to avoid negative campaign ads.
