Michelangelo Buonarroti, one of the greatest artists in history, prolific in the art of painting, of sculpture, of architecture and in poetry, is a true symbol of Renaissance man. Deeply religious, he created unrivaled intersection of spirituality, of his passion for Greek and Roman art, and his knowledge of human anatomy.
This presentation will illustrate the brilliant mastery of that blending in his early masterpieces in marble: tipsy god of wine Bacchus, sublime beauty and grief in Pieta’, and heroic biblical David – all three completed by Michelangelo’s age of 30.
Detailed views of the monumental frescoes of the Sistine Chapel ceiling (completed when Michelangelo was 37) will show the complexity of his artistic program inspired by the Book of Genesis. The central part of the ceiling visually narrates his vision of the Creation of the Universe, Creation of the Mankind and the Fall from God’s Grace.
