After a one-year hiatus, the Columbus Day Parade returns. Floats, school bands and costumed characters -- including Christopher Columbus himself -- will travel the traditional route up New Dorp Lane at 1 p.m. on Oct. 6.
"We're back," said Borough President James P. Molinaro, who came under fire when he canceled last year's parade to avoid a scheduling conflict with the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run, an event he supports. At the time, he promised to make the 2013 parade "bigger and better" -- and even scheduled the date 382 days in advance.
"I know people were disappointed," he said.
