International Women's Day is celebrated each year on March 8; oftentimes commemorating the movement for women's equality. But the day also translates into a time to appreciate the integral role women play both in and out of the work force. Barbie has even introduced 17 new dolls that reflect the modern-day and historical female role models.
And though the holiday may sometimes be a little controversial, it's been observed since 1909 in the United States. Because it was interrupted for a while in the states, it seems it became more popular the world over with a heavy concentration in Europe.
