As a way to pay homage to Italian culture -- steeped in the arts, architecture, music and, yes, fine cuisine -- and celebrate the achievements and contributions of Italian immigrants, Filippo Giuffre, owner of Zio Toto, hosted an evening of music, dinner and dancing at the popular Tottenville dining spot. The mega event that celebrated Italian Heritage Month featured live music by Angelo and Maria Venuto and showcased signature dishes from Northern and Southern Italy.
"It was a great night, a packed event with all celebrating their Italian roots,'' said Giuffre. "From time to time, we have various theme nights where we celebrate those of diverse cultures, and musical events where we highlight tunes from different eras. They've all been received so well and it gives members of the community a chance to come out and mix and mingle on the local level."
