It's been four years, five months and six days since Mayor Ben Walsh announced the intention to remove the Christopher Columbus statue downtown. He's now running out of time to get that done before he leaves office next January. Mayor Walsh said that he is committed to continuing following the process that began in October 2020, a process that has been hindered by legal roadblocks.
It's a topic CNY Central asked about as he prepared for the St. Patrick's Parade on Saturday because the Columbus Monument Corporation is set to march in that same parade. It's the group that has provided the loudest voice of opposition to plans to remove the statue, the ones responsible for the litigation that kept those plans from developing.
