About Dante Macchioni

Italian photographer Dante Macchioni's images have a sense of immediacy and freshness, an effect imparted by Macchioni's philosophy of capturing memorable moments in his daily life. Of the thousands of photographs he's taken, these are among his favorites; they are pieces of time that have stayed in his mind's eye. Macchioni sees his camera as a "machine" that enables him to record these split second experiences, and because of this, his transition to digital has been gradual and reluctant. "I have always tried to capture the images in a click of my camera as they passed by," he says.

Thematically, many of Macchioni's photographs play with reflections and the breaking apart of the visual plane with lines and squares. His artistic vein also influences his day job, where he works at a tile factory. No matter what subject Macchioni is tackling, however, there's a sense of quiet and peacefulness to his images that is striking. Macchioni hopes that his photographs cause a corresponding emotional and recollective response in his viewers.

About Gianni De Marchi

The narratives in Gianni De Marchi's oil paintings allow for diverse interpretation. He tips his hat to the aesthetics of tarot cards and Renaissance symbolism while exploring in his unique style a variety of surreal landscapes. De Marchi's carnival of subjects display a fantastic showmanship as well as mystery. His portraits of artists, acrobats, and kings each hold finely rendered facial expressions, seeming to confide great secrets to the viewer. Their features serve to ground their physical presence in spaces of abstraction while the presence of masks and idols lends a magical distortion to the identity of these characters.

De Marchi's backgrounds disappear into a bare infinity, taking subtle advantage of a one-point perspective and bringing out the rich range of his oil paints. The use of burgundy, virginal blue, and white columns evoke a variety of belief systems within art history and religion. De Marchi is truly a contemporary Renaissance man, and his repertoire includes polyptychs and drypoint engravings.

Gianni De Marchi is celebrating the fiftieth year of his artistic career with an exhibition in NYC at Agora Gallery.

About Sarah Arensi

Sarah Arensi's mixed media compositions on canvas use saturated colors and shining golden sections to create abstract, contemplative, and meditative forms. With each piece she aims to "bring people to ...the state of grace, opening, and bliss." Each image focuses on inner growth based on the artist's own personal pursuit of spirituality and meditation. One of Arensi's primary goals in each piece is to convey a universal language and elicit real emotion and openness from the viewer. Arensi creates works with a divine inspiration in mind. Figurative or completely abstract, each painting shines with bright pigments and metallics, focusing on such concepts as love and mindfulness. Many pieces glisten with textured material, creating multifaceted fields of color. In some, mesmerizing pools of bright color ringed with gold draw the eye into a spiral of light, while in others gold cuts horizontally and vertically across the compositions.

In addition to her mixed media and painted works, Arensi also teaches artistic meditation. This exploration of emotion and spirituality in artwork manifests in her images, which aim to delve into the essence of life.
