A special event celebrating the legacy of pianist and teacher George Imbragulio (1923-2015) will take place on Sunday, October 1, 2017, at 3 p.m. in Marsh Auditorium on The University of Southern Mississippi’s Hattiesburg campus. Commemorative remarks about the renowned musician and instructor will be given by those who knew him, as well as performances of repertoire that Imbragulio himself had featured in his recitals throughout the Southeast by members of the Southern Miss piano faculty.
“We look forward to this special day of honor and remembrance of our inspiring teacher” said Dr. Theresa Sanchez, faculty pianist at JCJC and former student of Imbragulio. “By launching the piano scholarship fund in his name, we invite others to contribute to the goal of bringing more high quality pianists to the School of Music.”Imbragulio was born in Richton, Miss., of Italian immigrant parents, and grew up in Ellisville, Miss. He graduated from Jones County Junior College and immediately afterward enrolled in the Army, later shipping out to the Asian theater, spending time in India and China.
