Tracing the history and sacred symbolism of the Saint Joseph Altar tradition, native New Orleanian Sandra Scalise Juneau will present a lecture and will demonstrate the intricate art of cuccidata carving, as learned from two Sicilian-born grandmothers.
A Journalist and Culinary Arts Instructor, Mrs. Juneau has presented lectures and classes to individuals and groups about the Sicilian Pastry Art of Saint Joseph Altars as brought to Louisiana by Sicilian Immigrants and was featured with Chef John Folse on LPBS, the Louisiana Public Broadcast production, “Taste of Louisiana.”
