After all these years, 100 to be exact, 9th Street's heart is still in the same place — authenticity. Imported cheeses from Italy, display cases full of fresh-cut meats, hand-made floral arrangements and curb-side vendors selling the market's "best-kept secret" keep regular customers and tourists alike coming back.
On May 16 and 17, the South 9th Street Italian Market Festival will showcase the sights, sounds, tastes and many smells of the outdoor shopping strip that got going around the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
