Bill of Fare: Newest De Lorenzo's a 'hop, skip and a jump' across the river

A mix of Pennsylvania and New Jersey license plates can be found in the parking lot at the new De Lorenzo's Tomato Pies in Yardley, Pa., as both old and new customers make their way to the new location. Despite a quiet opening last month, word spread quickly that the legendary tomato pies that had their beginnings in the 1940s on Trenton's Hudson Street have a new home in Bucks County.

The Trenton restaurant closed in 2012, after the opening of a Robbinsville restaurant in 2007. Sam Amico, grandson of the founders of the Trenton restaurant, said a Pennsylvania location was always part of the plan. "We always wanted to be in Bucks," he said, because many of the Trenton customers came from there, while for residents of the Trenton area, "it's just a hop, skip and a jump across the bridge."
